The Heart of my Practice

I know the exhaustion of being caught between the weight of traditional roles and the demands of a modern world—where meeting the expectations of your family, your career, and your community often means leaving your own needs behind. Whether you are navigating the overwhelming shifts of motherhood, family dynamics, or the pressures of mid-life, it can feel like you’ve lost the connection to who you actually are.

Life Beyond the Chair

My journey into this work wasn't just a career choice; it was following a calling to support others in their most transformative seasons. To keep my own life balanced and vibrant, I lean into the things that spark joy and connection. You’ll often find me walking through our beautiful local trails with my Mini Goldendoodle by my side, or getting lost in the pages of a great book. I love the discovery of traveling and trying out new restaurants, but I’m just as happy hosting friends at home or feeling the energy of a live concert. I believe that being a dedicated wife and mother shouldn't come at the expense of being a happy, independent person. I bring that same belief into our work together, helping you find your way back to the things that make you feel alive.

My passion is providing a space where you can stop simply "performing" your roles and start reclaiming your own voice. I walk with you through the deep attachment and trauma work needed to untangle those pressures, helping you move from a place of constant survival to a life that finally feels aligned and authentically yours.

Meet your new counsellor

Amy Middar

My own background has shaped a deep appreciation for the unique cultural threads that make up our identities. I bring a strong understanding of the balance between traditional values and the Western world, helping you navigate the space where these two often meet. I am committed to providing a culturally sensitive space where your history, heritage, and traditions are respected and honoured.

I believe every individual has inherent worth and the capacity for meaningful growth. I support clients aged 12 and older, including youth, adults, and seniors, as they navigate different stages of life.

"My approach is integrative and collaborative, often incorporating somatic work to help clients connect with the wisdom of their own bodies. Whether we are meeting virtually or an over the phone session, my goal is to provide a warm, culturally sensitive space where you feel truly supported in aligning your life with your purpose.

My Story

My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t found in a textbook; it was forged through my own journey of healing. I grew up in an abusive home, navigating an environment defined by instability and the deep-seated trauma that comes with it. Beyond the challenges at home, I was born with a visible birthmark that made me a target for significant bullying. For a long time, the world felt like an unsafe place, and I moved through early adulthood in a state of constant "survival mode"

I spent years struggling with relationships and friendships because I didn’t yet know how to heal the wounds I was carrying or how to find a sense of inner safety. My journey into this field was born out of the necessity to heal my younger self, uncover the layers of trauma, and finally discovering my true identity. A central part of my healing has been learning to love myself despite my obvious scar, choosing to see it as a significant part of my story rather than a mark of shame. I have moved from a place of instability to a place of independence and peace, and I use that lived experience to walk alongside you as you reclaim your own voice and find your way back to a version of yourself that is secure, whole, and authentically yours.

Active Participant

I’m a firm believer in being a participant in my own life, not just a bystander. This means doing the work to break generational patterns and intentionally creating a healthy future for the next generation.

The "Third Child"

The Human Behind the Work

I’ve been married for 23 years and am a mom of two plus a Mini Goldendoodle who is actually my third child- lol

I believe the best therapy happens when we feel like equals. To soften the "clinical" feel, here’s a look at the things that keep me energized and inspired

The Hostess & Creator

I love the art of hosting, cooking for family and  friends, and leaning into deep cultural traditions. I also find a weirdly therapeutic peace in a freshly organized home and space.

Style & Soul

My personal "reset" usually involves a mix of spirituality, travel, and a great outfit. Whether it’s finding inspiration in fashion and makeup or losing myself in the energy of a live concert, I love things that sparkle.

The Explorer

When I’m not in the office, you’ll find me planning my next trip, out for a walk, or simply connecting with the friends who keep me grounded.
